On sustainable mobility in the education sector

Educational institutions, transport companies, municipalities and the Province of Limburg are working together to make the mobility of students and educational staff more sustainable. Sustainable means smarter, safer, cleaner, more comfortable and future-proof. We call this the Educational Approach Limburg. All major MBO and HBO institutions are affiliated with the Education Approach Limburg.

The approach focuses on keeping campus areas accessible, managing rush hour traffic and sustainable accessibility. Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar focuses on measures that promote the sustainable accessibility of educational institutions: less car use, more bicycle kilometers, a better distribution of travelers throughout the day or days of the week, and fewer travel movements (among other things, by encouraging e-learning for students and working from home for employees).

Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar also coordinates and facilitates knowledge sharing and networking opportunities between the various participating educational institutions. In addition, cooperating with (cycling) implementing organizations in Limburg and North Brabant helps to share knowledge, develop smart campaigns and actions together and implement them together.

All experiences from the cooperation with regional employers are incorporated into the educational approach, in order to arrive at a combined approach that targets both students and employees (teaching and non-teaching).

Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar is already doing this for HAS Green Academy, Hogeschool Zuyd Heerlen, Fontys Sittard, Vista College Heerlen, Gilde Opleidingen Roermond and Yuverta Roermond. Look to the right for examples of campaigns at these participating colleges.
